PCR Testing on Campus

Waseda will begin providing PCR self test kits to all students.

Listed below are the details for taking the PCR test.

Heads UP!:

Those who have had symptoms of COVID, please do not come to campus for a test but visit a medical institution instead.

Test results and personal characters (i.e. age group and gender) will be used by Japanese Government and 3rd parties for research purposes. Personal information will remain confidential for both cases.

If you test positive please consult with medical institution immediately and do not enter Campus until negative result is received from medical institute.



Requirements:

All Waseda students will be allowed to take the test.

Please have your student ID and download the HELPO app.

***HELPO app will only be available in Japanese

Details on app download and registration will be at the bottom of the page


Time Frame:

Testing on campus will start on Thursday May 20th, you can make an appointment starting Friday May 14th. The testing will end when the Japanese government decides to do so and so there are no final dates at this point in time.

(May tests are trial test and full scale PCR testing will start in June)


Cost:

Tests are free unless you are suspected of having COVID, in which case you will be asked to pay for the testing at a medical institute. (except for payment for food/housing to stay at the medical institute)


Location:

Currently there are 4 campuses that you can go to. You are free to choose any of the available sites, but you must go to the one which you register to avoid confusion.

At the sites you can:

1. Collect your PCR test kit

2. Submit your saliva sample

The 4 Campuses are:

Procedure:

1. Download the <HELPO> app.


2. Open app and enter campus code (invitation code) and student code (status classification code) as well as other required information.

-you will also be asked to enter some personal information such as phone number and email address, please check bottom for details.


3. Schedule an appointment.

-appointment can only be done 3 days prior of the date, although you may make as many appointments as you wish, 1 a week is recommended.

-there is a capacity limit on each time slots so please be flexible with your availability


4. Follow these conditions.

-You will take the PCR test and if you test positive consult a medical institute

-You will go to scheduled campus for test and take saliva sample by yourself and submit sample to reception

-You can not take sample within 1 hour of eating, smoking, or using mouthwash

-Although testing should only take about 15~30min please arrive 30min before your scheduled time.


5. Results will be notified through the app within a few days. Results will look like this:



If you Test Positive:

If you test positive please visit a medical institution immediately and follow the Waseda Health Support Center Manual.

-Those in Tokyo may contact Tokyo Fever Consultation Center

-At the medical center, state you tested positive as part of governments COVID-19 monitoring initiative or show them this URL: https://corona.go.jp/monitoring/



HELPO app Guide:

After clicking on the URL above, please read the QR code which will direct you to download the app.

1. After Downloading the app you will be asked to enter 2 things:

  1. Invitation Code (see Procedure 2 above)

  2. Phone number (which they will use to send results by SMS message)

2. You will then receive a 6 number code by SMS, which will be required to proceed.



3. Enter relevant personal information



4. Agree to the terms and conditions and you will move to a screen which states you have been registered. Tap start using HELPO to schedule an appointment.



5. Then Tap the bottom button stating PCR test available.


6. Tap on the registration button in the middle.


7. Check the box to agree to the conditions and tap continue registration.


8. Tap the middle button which states register. This should have available time and dates.


9. Enter your name and student code (status classification code, see procedure 2 above).


10. You should be directed to a screen stating that registration has been completed and you will receive an email confirming the registration.



For those who need to cancel their appointment, this can be done through the app as well.
